For dependable garage door track repair in Charlotte, NC, our family-owned team has been the local choice for over a decade. Your garage door’s tracks are the metal channels on either side of the door that guide the rollers up and over the door. They’re under constant stress every cycle, and they’re the part of the system most vulnerable to physical impact, a vehicle bump, a thrown object, or even a worn roller that throws the door’s balance off, which can damage or misalign the tracks.

When that happens, your Charlotte garage door stops working correctly until the track is repaired. We diagnose, realign, straighten, and replace tracks on residential and commercial doors. In most cases, what looks like a major problem is a routine repair we can handle in a single visit.

When You Need Track Repair

  • Visible bending or warping in the vertical or horizontal track sections
  • Gaps between the rollers and the track as the door operates
  • The door scrapes against the track during opening or closing
  • Door jerks, hesitates, or binds mid-cycle
  • Loud popping or scraping noises during operation
  • The door is leaning to one side, or the gap to the floor is uneven
  • The door has come completely off the track on one or both sides

If your door is completely out of track, do not attempt to use the opener or force the door. This will compound the damage. Call us.

How Tracks Get Damaged

  • Vehicle impact. By far the most common cause. Even a low-speed bump can bend a vertical track section.
  • Cascading damage from other failed components. When a roller breaks, a cable snaps, or a spring fails, the resulting unbalanced load can twist the tracks
  • Improper original installation. Tracks installed slightly out of square gradually wear unevenly and eventually fail
  • Debris in the tracks. Pebbles, sticks, and accumulated grime can deflect rollers and stress the track
  • Age and rust. Older tracks, particularly in humid environments, can corrode and weaken
  • Heavy door on undersized tracks. Tracks rated for one door weight may bend under a heavier replacement door

Our Track Service Scope

  • Full inspection of vertical and horizontal track sections
  • Identification of cause (bent track, misaligned mounts, worn rollers, etc.)
  • Straightening or replacement of damaged track sections
  • Realignment of the track to factory specifications
  • Inspection of rollers, hinges, and brackets affected by the track issue
  • Tightening of all track mounting hardware
  • Lubrication of tracks and rollers
  • Cycle testing to verify smooth operation
  • Recommendations for any related parts approaching failure

What to Do if Your Door Is Off-Track

If your door has come fully off the track, three things matter most:

  1. Don’t try to force it back on. A door dangling off its track can fall, causing more damage or hurting someone.
  2. Disconnect the opener. Pull the manual release rope so the opener doesn’t try to operate the door.
  3. Call us. Off-track doors are a routine call for our team. We have the tools and experience to safely re-track and realign without worsening the damage.

What to Expect

  1. Schedule a same-day or next-day appointment
  2. The technician arrives, secures the door, and inspects the tracks and surrounding components
  3. Plain-English diagnosis: what caused it, what we recommend
  4. Repair or replacement performed on-site
  5. Full operational testing across multiple cycles
  6. Walk-through of what was done and any preventative recommendations

Track Repair FAQ

Can a bent garage door track be straightened, or does it need to be replaced?

It depends on the severity. Minor bends can often be carefully straightened in place and the track returned to spec. Severe bends, kinks, or twists usually require replacement of the affected section. We’ll show you what we find and explain which approach makes sense.

Is it safe to use a garage door with a slightly bent track?

Not for long. A slightly bent track will wear rollers prematurely, strain the opener, and progressively get worse. The earlier it’s caught, the simpler the repair. Continued use accelerates damage to other components.

How can I prevent my garage door from coming off the tracks?

Three habits prevent most off-track events: never drive forward when the door is partially open, keep the photo-eye sensors clean and aligned, and replace worn rollers before they fail. Annual maintenance catches roller wear and sensor drift before they cause damage. Vehicle impact is the single biggest cause we see, but it’s also the only one that’s not really preventable through maintenance.

How long does track repair take?

Minor realignment takes 30–60 minutes. Replacement of a track section takes 1–2 hours. Re-tracking a door that’s fully off takes 1–2 hours plus inspection of related components.

Can a damaged track be repaired without replacing the whole door?

Almost always, yes. Tracks are individual components mounted to the wall and ceiling, so a damaged track section can be replaced or straightened independently of the door panels and the door’s hardware. Only when the original installation was done with non-standard tracks (rare), or when the door panels themselves are also damaged by the same impact, does the repair scope expand to the whole door. Vertical tracks are easier to replace than the horizontal/curved sections; if the damage is in the curve where the track transitions from vertical to horizontal, the repair takes longer because the geometry has to be reset to match the door’s lift specifications.

Will the track repair fix my noisy door?

If the noise is caused by the track issue (scraping, binding, rollers fighting an out-of-spec channel), yes. If the noise is from dry rollers or hinges, lubrication is the answer. We’ll diagnose the cause during the visit.

Do you replace just the damaged track section, or both tracks?

In most cases, we replace only the damaged section and align the rest. If both tracks are out of spec, old, or mismatched, a full replacement may make more sense.
